Dear LHS Orchestra Families,

With summer rushing by our attention inevitably turns to fall and the return to school. For those of us fortunate enough to be involved with the Langley High School Orchestra this means the opportunity to be part of one of the best high school music programs in the country. Playing in the orchestra, attending concerts and listening to great music are some of the ways to participate in and support our program.

Dr. Scott McCormick, now in his sixth full year, continues to make the academic experience both challenging and exciting for our students. Orchestra students learn to perform in front of others in a very disciplined group to crate an enjoyable experience for the listener. The best way for our students to do this is to enjoy what they are doing. Dr. McCormick's unique ability to combine serious study with the joy of making music promises to produce exceptional music classes and concerts.

For all this to take place we rely on your support through volunteering and fundraising. The Langley Orchestra Society exists to provide this support. We need volunteers throughout the year: we welcome anyone with a few hours of time to help with ordering dresses and tuxedos, produce concert programs, help setup for concerts, donate food to sell at concerts, man the tables at concerts, help with fundraising, chaperone travel, etc. Please join the Langley Orchestra Society, join a committee and be a part of the orchestra experience.

Financial contributions are another important way to keep our program strong and competitive. Your contributions help fund sectional and master classes with visiting music teachers, purchase instruments and sheet music, and provide our awards ceremony/dinner at the end of the year. We are a 501c(3) corporation: all contributions are tax deductible and 100% of your contribution goes directly to the programs which support your student's musical experience.

New and returning members are all invited to the new member orientation on Wednesday, August 29 at 7:00 pm. Students will be measured for dresses or tuxedos, parents and students will learn about volunteer activities and Dr. McCormick will explain his plans for the 2006/07 orchestra year.
