The Langley HS Orchestra is excited to welcome all string students to the 2021-22 season for what promises to be a much brighter year for music and performance.
The orchestra program is comprised of five classes that rehearse separately but often combine into three orchestras for concerts, assemblies, and assessments. There is one section for each grade level (freshman, sophomore, junior, senior) and one additional section (Philharmonic) which requires an audition and pulls from all grade levels. In addition, adjustments may be necessary for some students due to class scheduling, instrumentation of the ensembles, or advanced background and training.
There is a place in the orchestra for every string student who wishes to join and students are automatically placed into their grade-level class. However, those who wish to be considered for advanced placement, section seating, or Philharmonic are encouraged to submit an audition by video. The audition will comprise one scale of the student’s choosing (number of octaves and difficulty will be considered) and a short selection (1-2 min) that demonstrates the student’s tone, technique, and musicality. There is no need for special equipment – a video from a smartphone, tablet, or school laptop works fine and piano accompaniment is not necessary. Please be sure to introduce yourself at the beginning of your video.
Students already in Langley Orchestra will submit video auditions in Schoology. Students who will be new to Langley Orchestra should submit video auditions via this Google form by Tuesday, May 18, 2021.
