Countdown to Carnegie!

Thank you to all of the parents who attended our Trip Meeting on Wednesday evening, August 31. A huge thank you to our Trip Coordinator Karen DeFilipps for the countless hours of work she has already put into planning this exciting trip. Doc is planning an exciting repertoire that will be sure to impress!

Students who would like to attend the trip must both (1) register at WeTravel as well as (2) pay the deposit via MySchoolBucks by 6pm on Sunday, September 18th. Initially we will only be able to guarantee 100 students for the trip, so be sure to register and pay the deposit early if you want to secure your spot. For more details and for the links to register, please visit our trip page at https://www.langleyorchestra.org/nyc-trip-march-2023/

Orchestra kickoff

Thanks to everyone who made it out Sunday to our Potluck Picnic in spite of the intermittent downpours. Welcome to the Class of 2026! We hope everyone got the chance to meet someone new and maybe tried a new dish as well. Special thanks to our Hospitality Chair Kim McPherson for putting on such an amazing event. Thanks also to LOS Photographer Rania Razek for capturing the afternoon in her photos. Check out photos from the picnic (and prior events) on our Shutterfly site. And congratulations to the senior class for winning the annual Flickin’ Chickens contest!

Returning students, please make sure any existing apparel still fits…

Picnic Sunday and links/reminders

Picnic. Please join us at the Welcome Back Potluck Picnic this Sunday, August 21st, from 5:00-7:00 pm at the McLean Central Park Gazebo. Sign up to bring a dish to share at this SignUpGenius and bring a blanket or lawn chair. We look forward to gathering informally to kick off the school year. Students can join in the annual class competition in Flickin’ Chickens, led by Doclings Norah and Hugh, and meet fellow orchestra families in a casual atmosphere. Parking is available at the Dolley Madison Library or the McLean Community Center. Don’t forget the bug spray!

Links. Make sure to sign up for the orchestra e-newsletter and please consider sponsoring the Langley Orchestra Society (LOS). New students need to purchase the required polo shirt and t-shirt by September 14 before our spiritwear store closes for the year. Students have a little more time to purchase the required formalwear as polo shirts will be worn for the first concert in October. Students eligible for financial assistance through FCPS should make sure to fill out this confidential Google Form if they would like LOS assistance for the required apparel items and preconcert meals.

Students do not need instruments the first class of the year – Doc will announce in each class when instruments will be needed. Welcome back & here’s to a great school year!
