A glorious Gaelic Gala

Symphonic Orchestra performs “Lord of the Dance”

On Tuesday, October 18th, Dr. Scott McCormick and the Langley Orchestra presented its Gaelic Gala concert, featuring a variety of Celtic music and stunning dances from the O’Neill-James School of Irish Dancing.

Prior to the concert, orchestra students enjoyed a baked potato bar and enjoyed Celtic-themed treats in Langley Hall. Highlights of the concert included performances of traditional Irish music including reels and jigs.

Student soloists played alongside each of Langley’s three orchestras: Concert Orchestra (freshmen & sophomores), Symphonic Orchestra (juniors & seniors), and Philharmonic Orchestra (all grade levels by audition).

Special thanks to Theatre Director Brian Kaufman and his Saxon Stage Tech Team for building the stage platform and managing the varying sound and light requirements during our concert. Congrats Class of 2022!

Congratulations to the Class of 2022, now officially graduates of Langley High School!

The Class of 2022’s last orchestra concert, “Out of this World,” culminated in the senior slideshow (prepared by senior violinist Anh-Thu Pham) and a celebration of each senior during “City of Stars.” The Out of this World concert program can be viewed or downloaded below.

Senior violinist Erika Li’s article in this week’s Connection Newspapers paid tribute to this talented class.

Special thanks to “graduating” LOS Board members Jenny Werner (President), Amy Prewett (Newsletter and Hospitality), and Lucia Sugianto (Spiritwear), as well as to all of the graduating parent volunteers who have ensured the vibrancy of our orchestra community this past four years!

Whisked away to Russia!

On Tuesday, December 7th, Dr. Scott McCormick and the Langley Orchestra presented its Russian Winter Dreams concert. Prior to the concert, students dined on potato and beef pirozhkis and enjoyed Russian-themed treats in Langley Hall. Highlights of the concert included performances of music of famous Russian composers including Tchaikovksy, Rimsky-Korsakov, and Shostakovich, introductions by students taking Russian, and a reading and song by Langley’s iconic Russian teacher, Dr. Valentin Cukierman.

The concert recording link has been shared with orchestra families via e-newsletter and will also be made available in Schoology. Please note that only the first hour of the video can be streamed directly from the Dropbox account; to play the entire video including the “Mad Russian Christmas” performance, please be sure to download the file first.
