Heroes Concert Success

Congratulations to Doc and all three orchestras for great performances Tuesday evening at our Heroes concert! After rehearsals, students who opted into the preconcert dinner enjoyed “heroes” and time mingling with friends. Thanks to Hospitality Co-Chairs Amy Prewett & Nina Chee, and to all the volunteers who donated their time and food. For those who missed it this week, be sure to get your Krispy Kreme donuts on the next concert day starting at 3:25 pm in Langley Hall as our Donuts Fundraising Chair Laura Cian sold out of donuts quickly. Our Coffee Fundraising Chair Calli Harris also sold out of coffee and will be taking coffee pre-orders soon for delivery at our next concert.
The Heroes concert video will be made available to our orchestra students and families early next week via a link in Schoology and our e-newsletter. In the meantime, enjoy photos taken by our amazing Concert Photographer Rania Razek and assistant photographers Mike & Jen Dzwonczyk. Visit our Shutterfly page at langleyorchestra.shutterfly.com to see all 5 folders of photos, including photos from the concert, afternoon rehearsals, and casual photos in Langley Hall.

And last but not least, special thanks to our Concert Programs Chair Sandy Fitzgerald for all the work that went into the gorgeous programs that can be downloaded below.

Spreading the word: Heroes concert
With only a few days left before the Heroes Concert, this week’s Connection newspapers included an article by Erika Li announcing the upcoming concert featuring music by Brian Balmages and Richard Meyer. Special thanks to Susan McQuade, alumni parent, for continuing to serve as the orchestra’s publicity liaison.
The full newspapers can be accessed at http://connectionarchives.com/PDF/2021/101321/McLean.pdf (McLean) and http://connectionarchives.com/PDF/2021/101321/Great%20Falls.pdf (Great Falls). Erika’s article can be found on page 10 of both editions.

Countdown to our fall concert!
A few reminders as we prepare for our fall concert next Tuesday, October 19th. First, all students are required to stay after school on concert day to attend rehearsal. The rehearsal schedule (on stage) is as follows:
| 3:00-3:45 Concert Orchestra (Freshman & Sophomore classes) | ||
| 3:45-4:30 Symphonic Orchestra (Junior & Senior classes) | ||
| 4:30-5:15 Philharmonic Orchestra | ||
| 5:30-6:15 Dinner – boxed Subway meals in the cafeteria for participating Food Fund students | ||
| 7:00-8:00 Concert | ||
Second, Students wishing to participate in the Food Fund need to get in their Subway orders and payments by the end of the day Tuesday, October 12. For those families unfamiliar with Langley Orchestra’s Food Fund, the LOS organizes a catered meal before each concert given the limited time students have to leave school to obtain dinner. Participating orchestra students enjoy a meal on site for approximately $10. For this fall concert, students will enjoy boxed “heros” from Subway in advance of our Heroes concert.
All students need to wear the black Langley Orchestra polo shirts and black pants for the concert. All students and audience members must wear masks.
Finally, a special congratulations to sophomore violinist Cristina Pak for her selection to the Senior Regional Orchestra. Cristina auditioned in a competitive process and will perform at the Senior Regional Orchestra Event in November. Congratulations!
