“Sounds of Hope” at Wolf Trap!

Cover artwork by senior cellist Misha Somogyi

Langley Orchestra reveled in a picture-perfect day on Saturday, with comfortable temperatures, bright skies, and few cicadas for its first in-person group performance in 14 months. Special thanks to the Wolf Trap Foundation for partnering with us and hosting us Saturday May 15th on the Meadow Pavilion stage for a socially-distanced performance.

Our “Sounds of Hope” selections were video recorded by Bandman Music and will be made available to our orchestra families soon. In the meantime, our concert program celebrating Langley Orchestra’s Class of 2021 can be downloaded below.

Our planned repertoire ended with the Class of 2021 performing “I Will Survive,” a very fitting piece after the turmoil of the past 14 months… until the “Tribute to Doc” piece surprised Doc. This tribute piece was composed by senior cellists Misha Somogyi and Keon Parastaran, guest conducted by Adam Willett, and performed by members of the Class of 2021. The score was presented to Doc in a personalized folder which can be viewed below.

Doc also specially recognized three seniors for their amazing above-and-beyond efforts:

Parking details for Wolf Trap Event

For those students and families attending the Wolf Trap Event on Saturday, May 15th, please see the map shown below for parking details. We have been assigned Lot 1, behind the Filene Center (main stage), and if necessary, overflow parking in lot 4 (top of the map).

Directions: Turn into Wolf Trap’s main entrance at the digital marquee sign (1551 Trap Road, Vienna), and bend immediately to the right. At the circle, turn right just before the wooden box office area and follow the road around the back of the Filene Center to Lot 1. There should be signage up for Langley Orchestra, and there will be National Park Service rangers in the parking area(s) to assist with directions if necessary. From Lot 1, walk along the paved path and make a left onto the gravel path. You will see Meadow Pavilion on the right.

Please allow ample time so students may check in by their assigned time. (NOTE: Due to our newly assigned lot(s), participants and attendees no longer have to walk down the steep hill as previously stated in the newsletter.)
