Winter Concert: KAPITAN (Dec 16, 2025)

On Tuesday December 9th, Dr. Scott McCormick and the Langley Orchestra presented a Russian themed concert to honor Val Cukierman and the incredible legacy he has created at Langley. The audience experienced an evening of poems, songs, and glorious music from historical symphonies to modern soundtracks. Along with guest band members, the concert opened with “Festive Overture” by Shostakovich. Then, accompanied by the Philharmonic Orchestra, Luca Gozzi played “Piano Concerto No. 2” by Rachmaninoff, a famous classical work.

Next, the Concert Orchestra played Themes from Romeo & Juliet by Tchaikovsky and Five Ukrainians in a Bell Tower by Leontovych. Last, the Symphonic Orchestra finished off with Rasputin, a popular song on Just Dance, and a Mad Russian’s Christmas, which featured Tchaikovsky’s “Trepak” (Russian Dance) from The Nutcracker.

Thank you to Kaptian for sharing his passion for Russian language arts and culture with generations of students at Langley. We appreciate everyone who came to celebrate and enjoy the music!
