A glorious Gaelic Gala

On Tuesday, October 18th, Dr. Scott McCormick and the Langley Orchestra presented its Gaelic Gala concert, featuring a variety of Celtic music and stunning dances from the O’Neill-James School of Irish Dancing.

Prior to the concert, orchestra students enjoyed a baked potato bar and enjoyed Celtic-themed treats in Langley Hall. Highlights of the concert included performances of traditional Irish music including reels and jigs.

Student soloists played alongside each of Langley’s three orchestras: Concert Orchestra (freshmen & sophomores), Symphonic Orchestra (juniors & seniors), and Philharmonic Orchestra (all grade levels by audition).

The concert program can be downloaded below, and a concert recording link will be made available to orchestra families via e-newsletter and Schoology. (Be sure to sign up for e-news in the right sidebar if you aren’t already subscribed.)
Special thanks to Theatre Director Brian Kaufman and his Saxon Stage Tech Team for building the stage platform and managing the varying sound and light requirements during our concert. And a huge thank you and shout out to all of our volunteers — students, parents, and alumni parents — who support the Langley Orchestra in countless ways.

Thanks for a great car wash!!
Thanks to all of the student and parent volunteers who volunteered at the car wash on a beautiful Saturday. Kudos to our Car Wash Parents Becky Fulton & Lalitha Ketineni and Tri-M Car Wash Coordinator Maya Velgot for hosting an astoundingly successful fundraiser and fun event for our orchestra community on a picture-perfect day. And last but not least, thank you to everyone in the Langley HS and McLean community who came out to have their cars washed, or donated while driving by. Funds raised will be used for orchestra sheet music rentals, sectionals coaches, concert programs, and our stage buildout for Tuesday’s Gaelic Gala concert, among other things.

Our car wash fundraiser actually branched out into a push-up fundraiser streetside, with students doing push-ups for each donation.

Creative students then began offering a “dunk a student” prize for any donation… pictures are worth a thousand words.
